New York University School of Medicine is very excited to have launched a Chapter of Saving Mothers. The WHO cites that every day, approximately 1,600 women and 10,000 newborns die from preventable complications during pregnancy and childbirth. Our group's mission is two-fold: to raise awareness and promote action to improve maternal health worldwide. We accomplish this through our research committee, which compiles information about birthing practices and maternal mortality in countries where Saving Mothers has outreach programs. We assist Saving Mothers in assembling birthing kits for distribution at these sites. The group also conducts movie nights and dinners as vehicles to discuss relevant issues and encourage students to become involved. Lastly, we assist in fundraising for Saving Mothers.
