Spotlight: Dr. Shirazian
Taraneh Shirazian, M.D. is a board certified faculty gynecologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at NYU School of Medicine. She specializes in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and management of many common health issues affecting women. Her areas of medical and surgical expertise include uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, abnormal uterine bleeding, abnormal pap smears, uterine prolapse and menopause. She also performs therapeutic office procedures such as LEEP, colposcopy, ESSURE, (office tubal ligation) and NOVASURE (office endometrial ablation) procedures. More than anything, Dr. Shirazian believes in practicing medicine with an emphasis on patient care. She takes time to ensure that each of her patients understands the details of their condition, and all of the treatment options available.
She received her M.D. degree through the accelerated medical program at Brown Medical School and completed her postgraduate residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital. She is a diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Shirazian is an international leader in Global Women’s Health, currently serving as the Director for Global Women’s Health at the NYU Global Institute of Public Health. She created one of the first Departmental Divisions of Global Women’s Health in the country and serves as the President and Medical Director of Saving Mothers! She is dedicated to women’s health, education and empowerment in low resource settings.
