4th Week of the School of POWHER

From our local staff member Jes, who created the School of POWHER program:

“Saving Mothers staff is teaching blood pressure measurement, a technical skill, to women considered to be unteachable because they are indigenous, “uneducated”, and women. This photo definitely captures them in their natural element learning such a western practice. It is what I love about the School of POWHER and what I envisioned when I created it. We want to teach them critical thinking and technical skills that will only add to their ancestral wisdom and practices and it is important to do so in a setting that is familiar to them and respectful of their culture. The methodology of the curriculum includes a lot of interactive exercises and hands on workshops.”
