A New Vaginal Ring as HIV Prevention and Contraceptive —

This new ring slowly and concurrently releases two drugs, Dapivirine, an antiretroviral drug that prevents HIV by blocking the virus’s ability to replicate itself inside a healthy cell, and Levonorgestrel, a contraceptive hormone.

“Women’s sexual and reproductive health needs do not exist in isolation, and neither should their prevention options,” says Dr. Zeda Rosenberg, founder and chief executive officer of the nonprofit that is testing the product.

This new product is a way to empower women to be able to take charge of their reproductive and sexual health, a goal that Saving Mothers has always been fiercely dedicated to.
