I wanted to improve my skills so I could better help the women in my community.

What has been the most life-changing experience for you in working for Saving Mothers?
I never went to school. I barely know how to read and write. I thought that I would never be able to learn certain things in my life. Finally learning how to take blood pressure and listen to the baby’s heart was life changing for me. I couldn’t believe what I had accomplished. And now as an educator I am confident and proud in my abilities, especially for someone who never went to school. Because I had these life changing experiences I am now able to motivate the new students that don’t know how to read or write. It takes time and patience, but I am a testament that if I can do it so can they.
How have you changed since first working for Saving Mothers?
As a woman I lost the fear and shame I used to have. I am so confident now when I wear my uniform and take students out on home visits because it is a symbol of what I have accomplished. It is exciting to have relationships with doctors that I now call my friends.

¿Cuál ha sido la experiencia más cambiante para usted en trabajar para Salvando Madres?
Nunca fui a la escuela. Apenas sé leer y escribir. Pensé que nunca sería capaz de aprender ciertas cosas en mi vida. Finalmente aprendi cómo tomar presión arterial y escuchar el corazón del bebé. Cambio la vida para mi. No podía creer lo que había logrado. Y ahora como educadora estoy confiada y orgullosa en mis habilidades, especialmente para alguien que nunca fue a la escuela. Debido a que tuve estas experiencias de cambio de vida ahora soy capaz de motivar a las nuevas estudiantes que no saben leer o escribir. Se necesita tiempo y paciencia, pero yo soy un testamento que si puedo hacerlo así pueden ellos.
¿Cómo has cambiado desde que trabajaste por Salvando Madres?
Como mujer perdí el miedo y la vergüenza que tenia. Estoy tan segura ahora cuando llevo mi uniforme y llevar a las estudiantes a las visitas a casa porque es un símbolo de lo que he logrado. Es emocionante tener relaciones con los médicos que ahora llamo a mis amigos.
