Woman of The Week: Elizabeth Dearborn Hughes

Elizabeth Hughes started the first women’s college in Rwanda! She is an extraordinary individual who has worked to ensure that both men and women have the same chances to succeed.

In an interview with MSNBC she stated that sixty-eight percent of her students are the first women in their family to graduate college.

Women in Rwanda on average will invest 90% of their income into their families, as opposed to 30-40% for men. Educated women are less likely to contract HIV, will earn more money and have fewer and healthier children.
